We are in desperate need of recess equipment. Our bin is empty!! If you are able, it would be greatly appreciated!! Great gift idea for your child's teacher!





Word Study Update
We will be testing Tuesday and starting another list on Wednesday.  We wanted to get two lists in before the Winter Break. We will also be selecting a representative from each class for the school Spelling Bee. This is an optional activity in each homeroom. Students will be given a written spelling test cold, meaning they have had no practice with any of these words. The students who spelling the most words correctly will be the classroom representative. 

Reading Update

  The students are really enjoying the Making Meaning lessons. We are starting unit 4, analyzing text structures, on Monday. The picture book highlighted this week is Thundercake. 




Writing Update

  We are beginning a unit on procedural writing. This writing encompasses recipes, game directions, science experiments, and basic how-to directions.

November 27 - December 1

Word Study Update

We are resuming our word study groups from October. Our lists will last for approximately a week and a half allowing us to do two lists before the winter break. 


Reading Update

  The students are really enjoying the Making Meaning lessons. It really emphasizes independent reading time. During this time, students read books of their choice at their independent reading level. 

Writing Update


     We are beginning a unit on procedural writing. This writing encompasses recipes, game directions, science experiments, and basic how-to directions. 

Math Update

    We are wrapping up our multiplication and division unit this week.  The test will be given on Thursday. Please have your child teach you the strategies they have learned to multiply and divide. This will help them to study for the upcoming assessment.

Monday: Health Fair

We will be eating lunch in our classrooms at 10:25. Health fair rotations begin at 11:15 and continue until 2:00. Snack will be at the end of the day.

Tuesday: VIP Day

VIP Day has become an honored tradition at Stone-Robinson. Fourth grade will be receiving their guests from 9:30-10:15. We look forward to showing off a few of our talents to our special visitors. 

Book Fair
Book Fair will be opened Monday and Tuesday this week. Fourth Graders will have an opportunity to purchase books specifically on MONDAY. They will be allowed to buy books with their VIP on Tuesday if they wish to do so as well. 

WE ARE SO PROUD OF NIA! SHE IS THE FIRST 4TH GRADER TO COMPLETE ST MATH!! WAY TO GO!

Word Study Update

     Geometry Terms! Make sure your child knows the meaning of each word. 

Reading Update

 We are working on nonfiction text features. Our strategic focus is asking questions. You can help at home by asking your child what questions that had while doing their daily reading. 

Writing Update


Thankful Essay! Students will spend a great deal of time going through the entire writing process with the topic of things they are thankful for.  When these are complete, we will be hanging them in the hallway to share!

Math Update

    We are adding a division video to help out at home. We will work toward a more standard algorithm as the year progresses, but for now, this is a strategy we are using.

Dates to Note: 

Monday: No School 

Tuesday: No School. Get out there and vote!! Don't forget to attend your child's conference!! Schedule links below. 

Thursday: Jamestown Field Trip

Students will need to be brought to school that morning and picked up that evening as it is an all-day trip.  Students will need to be at Stone-Robinson at 7:10 a.m., as we’ll be leaving promptly at 7:30 a.m.  Buses will be returning to Stone-Robinson at 6:00 p.m.  Please arrive by 5:45 p.m.
Things to pack for the Jamestown trip:  
  • Lunch & drink (no glass containers) OR indicate you need the cafeteria to pack a lunch
  • 2 snacks with drinks (no glass containers)
  • At least 1 water bottle
  • Money for the gift shop (Optional...students are responsible for their own money.)
  • Depending on the weather, a raincoat/poncho

Word Study Update

     Geometry Terms! I know, math in word study?? Who would have thought it!!! Since there are so many Geometry terms in our next math unit, we use the month of November to practice those words. It would be a great help if you could point out any geometric shapes or concepts in the real world when you are out and about with your child.

    Fourth Grade's focus is to conceptually understand multiplication and division. We know that you are tempted to show your child the algorithm for solving multiplication & division problems, but we are requesting that you try and refrain. We will teach them the algorithm at the end of the year after a solid understanding of multiplication and division has occurred. We are attaching a youtube video that shows the conceptual ways of teaching multiplication.

     Believe it or not, it is the last week of the first quarter. This week's focus is to make sure work is completed and assessments are finished. 

HELP!! We are running out of individually packaged snacks for our classrooms. If you can send something in, we would greatly appreciate it!!

Reading Update

 We will be continuing our work on ReadWorks. This is a great website for practicing short passages and working on reading skills.

 This week we will be taking a break from our Making Meaning book lessons and focusing on test-taking strategies with reading skills.  We will be using a website called ReadWorks.org. This is a great website for differentiating text for student needs. 

Word Study Update

     Please keep working on using words in daily writing. We have noticed that even though our students are mastering their weekly tests, they are not applying these skills across the content areas.

Math Update

     After taking the unit three pretest, we created new math groups to emphasize student strengths. Students may or may not have the same math teacher for the next four weeks. These groups will begin Tuesday. We will be using Monday for reteaching the trouble spots from unit two.

Reading Update

 We are moving nicely through our Making Meaning lessons. Teachers will begin pulling students independently to learn their instructional reading levels.  

Word Study Update

     Students have been placed into groups by their assessment scores taken earlier this year. Our goal is for students to not only spell these words correctly on an assessment but in the daily usage. A great way to practice at home is to have your child write sentences with their words embedded in them. 

Writing Update


This week's topic will be A Time a Family Member Embarrassed You. This will be an independent activity that will be graded with a 4 point rubric. 

Math Update

     Our classes are wrapping up the graphing math unit modeling with about data called Generating and Representing Measurement Data. During this unit, students represent, collect, describe, and interpret data.
