Reading Update

  We are working on reading strategies such as Fact and Opinion and Cause and Effect. As you are reading at home, see if your child can give examples of these in their writing.

Math Update

We are working hard on measurement! The most difficult part of this is having your child memorize the conversions. They will be asked to use the basic measurement for tougher problems. Please practice these at home:
1ft = 12 inches
3ft = 1 yard
36 in = 1 yard
16 oz = 1lb
1 gallon = 4 quarts
1 quart = 2 pints
1 pint = 2 cups

Math Update

We will be taking our Math Midyear Assessment this week. This a county-provided assessment that is taken in two parts over two days. The first day focuses on computation and a calculator is not allowed. The second day, students will focus on the other domains of math and will be allowed to use a calculator. You can help at home by making sure your child gets to bed on time, has a good breakfast and brings a healthy snack every day.

Reading Update
  As the second quarter comes to a close it is time for teachers to do a progress check with each student. This means we will be spending the next two weeks administering county benchmark assessments. Some tests are individual while others will be given to the whole group.  You can help at home by making sure your child has a good breakfast, a healthy snack, and a good night's sleep.

Math Update

We are working on Geometry and Measurement. These are great units that can be practiced at home with little effort. Cooking with your child and having them help with household repairs is a great way to show your child how these skills are important for day to day life.
