      Or TFK as we call it has proven to be very challenging for the students. You can help at home by discussing the topics, especially the heavy vocabulary. This week's article focuses on the upcoming election. Some tough words are: 

    • quality
    • spew
    • ultimatum
    • preserve
    Word Study Update
    Over the next two weeks, the students will be working on vocabulary centering on Geometry. Our next math unit covers Geometry and we have found that teaching the words in Language Arts, makes a big difference in their overall understanding. 

    Math Update

    Ask your child to show you how they multiply and divide larger numbers. Having them teach you is a great way to solidify those key skills!

           The third book in our series of SEL lessons is Say Something. 

      Please ask your child about:
      • What kinds of things we are doing to keep our classroom safe and friendly so that everyone will feel welcome and want to come to school every day?
      • What bullying is?  
      • Why it's not okay to leave someone out on purpose?
      • What ways we can make sure everyone has someone to play with at recess or eat with at lunch?

      Jamestown Reminders for Thursday, November 8,
       2018


      • Childrenwill need to arrive at school at regular time and be picked up by 8:00p.m. in the bus parking lot.
      • Please park to the side of the bus lot to accommodate the buses pulling in and make sure to check out with your child's teacher when you pick up him/her.
      • They need to be dressed in appropriate clothing. As of Monday, the forecast looks sunny and a high of 60 degrees.
        • good walking shoes
        • raincoat/poncho
        • if rain is in the forecast (Please check the weather again on Wednesday.)
        • layers for cooler weather and/or the bus ride
      • They need to bring 2 snacks, 1 lunch, and 3 sealed drinks in non-breakable containers.  
      • Children who choose to bring appropriate electronics will be responsible for any items they bring.  Headphones are encouraged. All electronics will stay on the busses during the tours. Chaperones may take pictures.
      • If your child has medicationplease make sure the nurse has it so that we are prepared for the trip. Please make sure any required forms are filled out.
      • If you are chaperoning our trip, please park to the side of the bus lot to not block in the buses when we’re ready to depart.  Please plan on following the buses on Interstate 64 to help at rest stop(s) along the way for bathroom breaks. You may also carpool with other chaperones. 
      • Chaperones, please make sure you have completed the Volunteer Registration/background check process with the office.
      • Reminder- chaperone responsibilities are:
        • Drive to and from Jamestown and follow the school bus to help us at rest stops(s) along Interstate 64 if/when we need to stop for bathroom breaks.  If your child rides home with you, please still follow the bus as we’ll need help at the rest stop(s) on the way home with our students.  
        • Manage a small group of students throughout the day on tours, trips to the bathroom, etc. Contact teacher in case of emergency
           As a school, we are working hard on social-emotional education. In fourth grade, we began lessons during morning meeting that concentrate on these goals. The second book in the series of lessons is My Secret Bully.
